Ribbon Cutting for Spring Flow Avenue and Groundbreaking for Sumter County Fire Station 33

Sumter County, FL –

A ribbon-cutting was held today at Spring Flow Avenue, a newly constructed road just east of the I-75 and SR 44 interchange in Wildwood. This project is an excellent example of how Sumter County Economic Development, in partnership with Sumter County Public Works, Sumter County Fire Services, the City of Wildwood and a private sector landowner can partner on projects that advance public safety, enhance infrastructure availability, and spur private development. It all began with Sumter County Administrator Bradley Arnold’s recognition of the need for a new fire station to serve the east side of the county. Access to a median cut on SR 44 and the nearby availability of utilities were necessary as well. A 7-acre parcel on the south side of SR 44 was identified as the best location and planning began for Fire Station 33. The entrance road named Spring Flow Avenue was recently completed to contract specifications and on schedule and it will serve the fire station and future development on the adjacent parcels. A groundbreaking for the new fire station also took place and with site work already moving ahead, the project is slated to be operational by the end of this calendar year. Future development activities include mixed-use commercial and residential along with the MidFlorida Industrial Park, which is a 45-acre site that is privately owned. The industrial park will now have all utilities available, easy access to I-75 and the Florida Turnpike, plus a fire station close enough to make commercial insurance rates low for companies that locate in the park. These attributes, when compared to raw land, advance the completion of a project by approximately 1-2 years. Since companies are almost always looking to move quickly into the construction phase, these factors are often the key component of the decision of where they locate. By making Sumter County the easy choice for these projects, we can literally pave the way for economic development. The corresponding business investments help keep our tax base diversified and offer new job opportunities for our citizens.
