The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners proudly presented a proclamation recognizing National Agriculture Week, celebrated from March 16–22, to honor the hardworking farmers, ranchers, and agriculture professionals who help sustain our community.

With over 1,100 farms and ranches in Sumter County, agriculture plays a vital role in our local economy and food supply. Florida’s agricultural industry ranks as the second-largest in the state, providing more than 2.5 million jobs across natural resources and food industries.

Thank you to our local agriculture businesses, UF/IFAS, and 4-H members for your dedication to shaping the future of farming. As the average age of farmers continues to rise, it’s more important than ever to encourage young minds to explore careers in agriculture.

No Cost Summer Youth Interns

Be an influencer on the future workforce of Central Florida while getting seasonal help.

CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) invites employers to establish a 4-week internship paid by us. Access workforce ready local interns this summer and identify future employees.

High school students participating in CSCF’s Summer Youth Experience track earn wages funded by us, participate in workforce readiness training, network with professionals and gain hands-on experience working in their field of interest. Inspire young professionals and cultivate growth for a thriving workforce.

2025 Sumter Student Hiring Fair - EMPLOYER REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Sumter County Schools will be hosting a Hiring Fair for Students on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Wildwood Middle High School in Wildwood, FL. Twelfth graders from South Sumter High School, The Villages High School, and Wildwood Middle High School looking for employment upon graduation will be invited to participate. Juniors from all schools are also invited to participate in the event for possible summer employment or part-time/OJT options. This is a great opportunity to network your business with potential employees.

SECO Energy Expands Headquarters in Sumter County, Strengthening Local Infrastructure and Growth

Sumter County is proud to support SECO Energy’s recently announced Expansion and Improvement Plan, a five-year initiative that includes a new expanded headquarters in Sumter County, as well as district operations offices in Lake, Marion, and Sumter Counties. This project is a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure, reinforcing SECO’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient service to its rapidly growing membership.
