Each of the utility providers in Sumter County provide the consistent and high-quality level of utility service needed to power our fast-growing economy, and they work with the business community to ensure they continue to provide the best quality service and keep up on market demands. Sumter County is served by four electric providers, one natural gas provider, and a number of public and private telecommunication & internet providers and water & sewer providers.


Electric Providers

Duke Energy

Duke Energy Florida is a regulated public utility primarily engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in portions of Florida. Duke Energy Florida’s service area covers approximately 13,000 square miles and supplies electric service to approximately 1.7 million residential, commercial and industrial customers.

SECO Energy

SECO Energy is a not-for-profit electric cooperative providing reliable, safe, and affordable electric service to over 250,000 members or roughly 500,000 consumers. The seven Central Florida counties include Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Levy, Marion, Pasco, and Sumter. SECO Energy is the third-largest electric co-op in Florida and the seventh largest in the nation.

Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC)

Since 1947, Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative has serviced customers in South Sumter, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. As a non-profit organization, members of the Cooperative work together for a common goal, and share in the excess margins (profits) of the Cooperative based on their patronage (annual energy charges), which has contributed to the reasonable energy costs enjoyed by their customers.

City of Bushnell

The City of Bushnell Utilities Department provides electric, water and wastewater services to both residential and commercial customers. The department is responsible for the daily operations of, repair and maintenance of, and new construction of these three utilities. The electrical distribution system is designed to provide retail power to customers within the Bushnell area. In addition to the electric services, the City owns and operates a fiber system providing limited broadband services to its own locations and to other government offices in the area.
